I was growing up in Tasmania, and every Saturday, the family would sit on the couch and soak up “Hey, Hey, It’s Saturday.” It was a family-friendly introduction to comedy, which morphed into things like The Comedy Company and Fast Forward and then evolved into The Doug Anthony All Stars and bootleg recordings from Melbourne comedy clubs.
I ran off to Melbourne three days before my 18th birthday to go to university and study. I spent my 18th birthday at Cheeseshop Live, my first pub comedy gig, and took blurry photos.
I hung around the comedy world, slowly meeting some up-and-comers and taking their photos for my uni folios, culminating in a whole folio of portraits of comedians for my end-of-uni folio.
After that, I turned from the weird guy with a camera taking photos to the weird guy hanging about who actually can take photos and can you take my photo please.
Since then there have been book covers, DVD’s, CD’s and more recently streaming tiles as well as marketing material for shows.
The whole story is below in a video (soon)

SOME AWARDS
I have a couple of hundred with the Australian Institute of Professional Photography at national and state levels, including wins overall in categories and as overall photographer of the year. They awarded me a Master of Photography with three gold bars. I would have more, but COVID ate the institute.
So I went to NZIPP and became a Master there in two years (it normally takes about five). I was finalised for Australian Portrait Photographer of the Year in 2022 and 2023.
In 2021, I won the public prize for the most highly-rated exhibition at the Ballarat International Photo Bienalle.
The Nyland Prize was also snapped up for a shot of Reuben Kaye in 2024. (this is a kinda big deal) – Details here
My kid bought my Father Of The Year trophy in 2021. I’m not sure what I did to not receive it in the preceding and subsequent years.
OTHER STUFF
In my day-to-day world, I’m Photobat.

There are many more… one day i’ll update this bit.
